How to Win the Race in 3 Steps

It’s Finally Time

For the past few months you’ve been planning and strategizing, thinking of every kind of content you want to create and how you’re going to use it. All that time was in preparation for now.

Now you have to put it out there. But don’t think of this as the end of the race. Everything you’ve done thus far has been in preparation for the race you are about to run. A marathon runner doesn’t wake up one day and decide to run a marathon without any preparation. He spends months training his body and equipping himself mentally so that when he runs the marathon he is capable of doing his best. And like that marathon runner, all the preparation you have done for your marketing has brought you to starting line. Now you have to run the race.

Showing Up

You’d be surprised just how many people do all the preparation you have done and don’t even show up to the starting line. It’s easy to start making excuses. “What if I reviewed my plan one more time?” “I really should redo that part of the plan before I start.” “What if people don’t like this? If people won’t like it, I should just not publish it.”

And those are just a few of the excuses we have heard from people. But if you are committed to doing something with your marketing, you need to realize that like a marathon, the race has a start time. Now is the time to start your marketing marathon. And you can only win if you show up for the race.

Keep Your Eye on The Prize

While you are “running the race” of marketing, it will be easy to get distracted by what is going on around you. You might be tempted to look at how your competitors are doing in their marketing. You might get a look at the numbers in the economy and start to feel afraid of the future. Your business might have some internal items you want to focus your time on. But none of those things are helpful in building a successful marketing campaign. There is a time and place for things like looking at how your competitors marketing performed, or making adjustments to your company, but if you let those things derail your marketing campaign, you will miss your goals.

You may not be as well equipped as a larger competitor. You may not have the same performance. You will most likely face moments of self doubt. That’s why you need to keep your eye on the prize. Remember your goals. Remember what you are trying to achieve and put those goals in front of you at all times.

Listen For Your Cheerleaders

If you have an external marketing team, you have cheerleaders. You may have other people like friends or family. It’s important when you are running to have someone cheer you on, and it’s no different when you are running a business. You need people to help cheer you on as you are going.

That is one of our functions as a marketing company. We cheer our clients on. And if you are wanting some help in figuring out your marketing and having a team that helps you prepare and cheers you on, we would love to talk with you.

And now that you are standing at the starting line, it’s time for the race to start.
