A Day in the Life of A LinkedIn Manager

by | theBlog

“LinkedIn works around the idea of making connections.”

We are constantly telling the businesses we speak with that social media is a lot of work and requires consistency. But just how much work does it take to manage social media?

Today we are going to show you by walking you through the tasks one of our social media (SM) managers handles every day.

Posting New Content

The content calendar system that we use tells our SM manager what to post and when. So all he has to do is post the content for the day. It may not take long to get the post up, but he will verify that it has been posted correctly before moving on, so it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes.

Checking for Responses

Every morning our social media managers open LinkedIn and checks for any responses to the messages they’ve sent the previous day. They will then respond if necessary to those messages. This process will take about 20 minutes to an hour depending on how many messages they have to respond to.

Sending Follow-ups to Previously Sent Messages

If there haven’t been any responses, our SM managers will send a follow-up message depending on how many messages have been sent. The messages are already written by Nathan, our lead copywriter, ahead of time, so the managers don’t have to worry about what to say. Overall this process will take about 30-45 minutes.

Looking for New Connections

LinkedIn works around the idea of making connections. So every day our managers will spend 1 to 2 hours looking for connections and sending out connection requests to business owners we would like to connect with and those we can share value with.

Responding to Comments

But just because the post is up, doesn’t mean their work is done. The SM managers have to interact with those who have engaged with the post by leaving comments and thanking those who shared it. This can take up to an hour easily.

Forwarding Leads to the Appropriate Person

When a relationship has been built enough with a potential client, they will need to move away from the more general type of interactions that our SM managers provide. So they will pass that lead on to the respective clients. They will also forward any questions or requests for conversations so that the clients can handle the more nuanced cases.

Tracking Engagement

The last thing our social media managers do for the day is to compare the work they’ve done for the day to the other social media posts they have made. They will make note of what worked and compare the posts to see if we are still on track with engagement. It generally won’t take more than 15 to 30 minutes each day, but this is a valuable check-in for our process.

In Conclusion

If you tally up the times above, you will see that Social Media takes at least 4 hours on a light day. And that’s if everything is easy. On some days it’s not unusual to spend closer to 5-8 hours working on these things including message updates and modifications to campaigns. It’s a lot of work to handle every day, but without putting in this level of effort, you won’t see consistent results.

I know that this looks a little intense. It is. But with the consistent work we can build relationships with potential clients. And more and more, we are finding that people buy based on the relationships they have. Relationships = Trust.

If you’ve gotten this far then you can relate and you’re probably wondering how to do this yourself. Let’s set up a time to chat and let’s evaluate the trouble spots in your social media marketing.
